Artifact 1
This is part 2 of my Midterm Project which I had to make a chart that had Income, Housing, and other information from the two states that I chose. Article 1: Reflection
The assignment that I'm looking back on that I had completed so far this semester is the Midterm project part 2. In this project I learned how to make charts using the data that I received from the Census database, at first I found this project hard to figure out because I was trying to understand what information to put in in certain areas and what to leave out. The amount of money that differ between the two states was shocking because I didn't know that in certain areas the money that goes to certain families more than others. This assignment helped me to study in my other classes because when it comes to projects such as this one it pays to get the information ahead of time so all I have to do is plug in the information. Artifact 3
This is an discussion that I had to write about Diversity in the US. the question I had to answer was How is America becoming more diverse and how does that affect the political structure of the US? Artifact 3:Assignment
America is becoming more and more diverse because immigrants are coming from all over the world and settling in the suburbs in certain areas of the United States. When they come here it's because they want their children to have a better education and it's where their jobs are located at. This affects the political structure of the US because the immigrants are finding ways to vote and to Americans that are getting more worried about immigrants don't like that and will do anything to keep them in certain parts that may or may not accept them at all. In Illinois the Major set up five schools to see where the immigrant children will be accepted and where they will not be. Even though the immigrants come to the US to find a better life for their families they are faced with poverty, inequality just because who they are and where they come from. Artifact 3 Reflection
After watching several videos on this matter it made me think about all how this is affecting people. Yes, in some areas the schools are ignoring the fact that they are separating the children just because of the language barriers. Also, when the immigrants that come to the suburbs in America and finding ways to vote to make it better for the children makes it hard for the US to keep track of who's here legally and who is not. When they are placed in areas that won't accept them by the government hoping that they would go back to where they came from. Final Reflection
This class was one of the two online classes that I have taken this semester and I really enjoyed this class. I can also say that I have and working toward finishing the goals that I have set for myself in the beginning. This class has opened my eyes in how warrants are a key factor in any searches that the police need to do in order to get evidence or people. I also learned the process that laws have to go through and that they need the majority of yes's in order to become a law. Political Science had made me think about how far the government came since the past and even though there are still a few hurdles that are in the way, the government is trying to do what’s best for the people. This class really made me thinks about a lot of things in order to answer questions and to make sure that they are in my own words because of turnitin. This is the first time that I had to work with turnitin for both classes and I'm happy that they had it because I can be happy that my work will not be said to be part of plagiarism. When turning in assignments I had to make sure to cite it in Chicago format and even though I worked with it before it was minor. I can honestly say that I have learned a lot from this class in just 8 weeks more than i do in my history class because I have to make sure that I get things done faster because it is a smaller time frame. I know that I'm going to miss this class because I really enjoy learning about the history of our government. Even though there are times that I didn't like learning it's important to know how and why laws are being made and passed even though we may not like them. This class made me realizes that getting assignments done sooner and on time is a great tool to use because the faster it gets done the less time I have to procrastinate. |
Artifact 2
This artifact I did was an discussion about a case that had taken place and its called Fernandez v. California. In case “FERNANDEZ V. California” a decision had be made. The decision was made by six justices against three other justices. They had found Walter Fernandez guilty of all charges.
Walter Fernandez was a gang member who had robbed and attacked Abel Lopez. Abel was able to call 911 a few minutes after the suspect had left. When the police showed up they had checked out an alley that is known as a gang location. When they were searching for clues two eye-witnesses gave them the location that Fernandez was staying at. When they go there an Roxanne Rojas answered the door and granted the police entrance when asked permission to search. Fernandez then came into the room and try denying them entry and was arrested on site. After he was arrested they search his apartment and found evidence of gang paraphernalia, a gun, and a knife. One of the sides was voting for this because even though they didn’t have a warrant they had information on the suspect and eye- witnesses. The other side was against the police entering without a warrant because all the evidence could have been throughout in court. I think that this is important because even the police were following the clues that lead up to the home of Fernandez and they “asked” permission from the other tenant if they can look. If that tenant denied them just like Fernandez did then they would have came back with a warrant. Once any tenant or person that grants the police to search the house then the search is reasonable and the warrant is unnecessary. The ideology of this case is that some people don’t like that the police entered the premises without a warrant because it looked at as invasion of privacy. By law they are supposed to have the warrant in their hands and ready to be shown when the person answers the door. However , there are a few cases that would ignore the warrant part and allow the search to happen without the warrant. The Questions If you could vote on this case which side would you choose? Why? How would you feel if this was happening to you? Citations FERNANDEZ v. CALIFORNIA. Fernandez v. California Reflection This assignment had opened my eyes about how important it is for the police to always have a warrant to enter people’s homes. However, this case showed that even though the police followed the clues to Fernandez home and the other owner gives permission to enter, some people still believe that they should had a warrant in hand. Fernandez was a criminal in this case because of the assault and the robbery that he had committed against Abel Lopez and the evidence was almost dismissed because the police arrested him insight even though he denied them entranced. A warrant is a document that is signed by a judge that over rides any person’s right to deny the police to search their homes. But, it does take a while for the warrant to be signed because the police officers have to give proper reason on why the warrant needs to be signed. This didn’t happened because the roommate of Fernandez granted permission because she didn’t know that Fernandez had committed a crime. I believe that if she did than she would have denied the police from entering the home and telling them to come back with a warrant. To me a warrant is a way to take away someone’s 4th amendment of the constitution because sometimes the police will have the wrong house and that violates that person’s privacy. In this case the police went to the home of Fernandez after hearing from witnesses that this is where he was staying, I don’t believe that the police were expecting him to be home and when they saw him after being allowed in they were able to apprehend the suspect that they were looking for. Fernandez also lost his right to deny the police anything when he assaulted Lopez and when the police found objects that led to the conclusion that he was part of a gang that was local in the neighborhood. A few questions that I have is “Did the gang have anything to do with the assault?” “Was this a warning to other people that if they did something to the gang than they will be submitted to assault and their property vandalized?” I agree with the six justices that said that if the other tenant gives the permission to enter the house than the search warrant is out the window. This just shows you that people that have roommates need to worry about their actions because something like this can happen to them. |
